Manchester City midfielder Rodri expresses intention to remain with the team
Rodri, the Spanish international footballer currently playing for Manchester City, is planning to stay at the English club and has been offered a new contract that would keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2029.
The new deal, which would make Rodri the second-highest earner and the highest-paid midfielder in Europe, is a clear indication of Manchester City's desire to retain the services of the defensive midfielder. However, Rodri has reportedly shown some hesitation, with Real Madrid expressing interest in signing him as a long-term target.
Madrid's interest in Rodri is primarily due to their need to replace midfielders like Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić. The Spanish club sees Rodri as an ideal candidate to fill the "No. 6" midfielder role. Despite the interest, Real Madrid is expected to wait until 2026, when Rodri enters the final year of his current contract, before making a serious move.
Rodri's decision is not an easy one, given his success at Manchester City. He has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, winning the Premier League title four times with the club. He has also made 173 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 22 goals and providing 21 assists.
Rodri's current happiness at Manchester City and his lack of immediate plans to leave suggest that he is leaning towards staying. The allure of Real Madrid, arguably the biggest club in the world, is undeniable, but for now, Rodri seems content at the Etihad Stadium.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see whether Rodri's decision is influenced by the prospect of winning La Liga or the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid. For now, however, the evidence points towards Rodri staying at Manchester City.
