Ilkay Gundogan had placed Manchester City in the Round of 16 after scoring a brace against Al-Ain FC from the United Arab Emirates in their second match (6-0). Rodri replaced Gundogan in the 66th minute during the Juventus game. The parallel match saw Al-Ain defeat Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca 2-1 (1-1).
