Manchester City announced a reported deal with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma
In a surprising turn of events, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to leave the French club and join Manchester City in a transfer expected to cost between £35 million and £43.1 million.
The move comes after Donnarumma was replaced at PSG by Lucas Chevalier and the club's reluctance to meet his high wage demands. Manchester City, on the other hand, has shown readiness to negotiate a fee that is about half of PSG's original asking price of around €50m (£43.1m).
Donnarumma, who is currently ranked at number 1 in a list of the best goalkeepers in the world, has also spoken directly with Pep Guardiola, Manchester City's manager. The Italian international has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League and his disappointment and disheartened feelings about being cast aside by PSG.
PSG, however, are motivated to sell Donnarumma to reduce the financial burden of his salary instead of potentially losing him on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires. Manchester City views this as an opportunity to acquire a top goalkeeper at a reduced fee, especially as they balance their squad plans around current goalkeeper Ederson’s future.
Gianluigi Donnarumma has released a statement confirming his career with PSG is over and expressing his gratitude to the fans for their support and affection. If he is unable to say goodbye in person, he has expressed his hope to do so at a later date.
The transfer could strengthen City's chances of winning the Premier League this season, according to our website. However, the signing of James Trafford by City raises questions, given his recent return from Burnley and Donnarumma's potential arrival.
It was also reported that Manchester United were interested in Donnarumma, but talks of a move to Old Trafford have gone quiet.
