Store Manager Tells Günther Jauch About Gross Find in Discounter - Manager Finds Soiled Underwear in German Supermarket on Millionaire Show
A discount store manager from Germany recently shared his bizarre experience on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? after discovering a pair of soiled underwear in his supermarket. Ben Farkaš, who oversees a branch of an unnamed chain, recounted the incident while competing on the popular quiz show.
His unusual find became a talking point during the broadcast, where he also revealed how he dealt with the item—using a long pole to dispose of it without touching it directly.
Farkaš first spotted the cotton underwear wedged between a refrigerated shelf and a pallet. At first glance, he mistook it for a baby's bib because of its small size. Upon closer inspection, however, he realised it was stained and clearly not meant for a child.
The origin of the underwear remains a mystery. No staff or customers have come forward to explain how it ended up there. Farkaš later admitted to sending photos of odd discoveries, including this one, to another manager as part of an informal competition between colleagues. On the quiz show, Farkaš performed well initially, answering questions confidently and winning €16,000. He relied on lifelines for the €4,000 question and continued using them for higher-value rounds. But his run came to an end when faced with a question about Swabian Gerd Nefzer's honour. Unsure of the answer, he chose to walk away with his earnings rather than risk losing them. During the episode, Farkaš also mentioned his daughter's ambition to take over the show from long-time host Günter Jauch in six years. The light-hearted remark added a personal touch to his appearance. While such discoveries in supermarkets occasionally make headlines, no official records or media reports detail how often similar incidents occur in German stores. Searches for data on unusual or disgusting finds in food sections over the past five years yielded no relevant results.
Farkaš left the show with €16,000 and a memorable story to tell. His experience highlights the unexpected challenges supermarket staff sometimes face. The incident also sparked curiosity about how often such bizarre discoveries happen—and why they remain largely undocumented.
