Manchester United are gearing up for an exciting new season, with Sky Sports and NOW set to broadcast over 215 Premier League matches exclusively live. The Red Devils have been active in the transfer market, aiming to address key areas of the team.

One such area is the goalkeeping department, which has been under scrutiny due to inconsistency and errors from current options André Onana, Altay Bayındır, and Tom Heaton. Gary Neville, a former Manchester United right-back who won eight Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes that a new goalkeeper is crucial for United's top-six finish aspirations.

Reports suggest that Manchester United are actively pursuing several high-profile goalkeepers. These include Nick Pope of Newcastle United, Bart Verbruggen of Brighton, Senne Lammens, a Belgian wonderkid, and the world-class Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is a free agent after his stint at Paris Saint-Germain. Other notable targets include Emiliano Martinez and Mike Maignan.

The club has reportedly been given the green light to sign a new goalkeeper and is poised to use its remaining transfer budget on this position before the window closes. Manchester United's manager, Ruben Amorim, appears determined to address goalkeeping as a key problem area to improve United’s chances of achieving a top-six finish and reestablishing themselves as Premier League contenders.

Meanwhile, United's attack has also seen significant reinforcements. The club has splashed out £200m to land Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and now Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Gary Neville believes that these new signings could potentially score around 40 goals, which could help United reach the top six. Sesko, in particular, is young and has the potential to make a significant impact.

The new season will kick off with a challenging fixture against Arsenal on Sunday. Neville believes that United's tough early season fixtures pose a challenge, but the reduced demands of not playing in Europe could help United's players stay healthier and perform better.

Despite his criticisms of United last term growing increasingly strident as the club plunged to its worst top flight finish in half a century, Neville has expressed approval about the signings made by the club this summer. For Neville, a top-six finish would be considered a healthy start for United in the 2025/26 season.
