Man United's signing of Benjamin Sesko faces potential obstacles as Rasmus Hojlund creates complications in the deal
Manchester United's search for a new centre forward continues, with two key targets identified in Rasmus Højlund and Benjamin Šeško.
United have initiated talks over a move for Šeško, who has been among Europe's hottest properties this summer[1]. However, a potential transfer for the Slovenian youngster could come at a hefty price, with reports suggesting a transfer fee closer to €70m[2].
Meanwhile, Højlund, who joined United from Atalanta in 2023, has shown mixed form since his arrival. Despite scoring 26 goals in 95 games for the Red Devils[3], his performance last season was somewhat underwhelming, with just four Premier League goals from 32 appearances[4].
Despite this, Højlund has publicly declared his intent to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford[5]. However, his future at the club is uncertain, with interest from other clubs, including Newcastle, who have submitted a €75m bid for the Danish striker[6].
RB Leipzig have also expressed an interest in signing Højlund, but the striker has made it clear that he does not wish to move to the German club[7]. This could potentially complicate any potential transfer deal involving Leipzig's Šeško and United.
United have already made significant investments in their attack this summer, signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined cost of £113.5m[8]. However, they have yet to secure a new centre forward, with Amorim expressing a preference for Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins, but Villa are unwilling to sell their top goalscorer from last season[9].
As the transfer window draws to a close, the future of Højlund at United remains uncertain. United boss Ruben Amorim is unsure about the striker's future, with Amorim stating that he is happy with Højlund's performance but is unsure what will happen until the end of the transfer market[10].
