Man United's Decision by Ruben Amorim Criticized by Paul Scholes: Scholes labels decision as 'madness' after Man United qualifies for Europa League final

Spitfire Scholes Slams Amorim's Strategy at Man U:

Paul Scholes isn't mincing words when it comes to Ruben Amorim's decisions at Manchester United. Despite the Red Devils' recent triumph in the Europa League, Scholes isn't persuaded. In a no-holds-barred critique, he claims Amorim has been prioritizing European competition over the Premier League-a strategy Scholes firmly rejects.

Man U's shining Europa League performance saw them cruise to a 7-1 aggregate victory against Athletic Bilbao. They earned the Europa League final spot, a chance to prevent a dismal Premier League finish and secure a much-desired spot in the Champions League next season.

Things look grim for the Red Devils in the Premier League, where they're currently languishing in 15th place. Finishing as low as 17th is a very real possibility, a stark contrast to their successful European campaign.

Amorim's strategy has been to field a weaker side in the Premier League, saving the stars for European matches. With players like Bruno Fernandes often relegated to the bench, Man U's Premier League performance has suffered significantly. A prime example: the defeat by Brentford last time out.

Scholes, however, firmly disagrees with this approach. In an article for TNT Sports, he argued that a team of Man U's caliber should be able to juggle multiple competitions without compromising any one. "Manchester United should be playing in two or three competitions at once without sacrificing something," Scholes wrote. "And they've clearly sacrificed the league."

In Scholes' opinion, Amorim's team seems to accept defeat in Premier League games, a mentality he calls "madness." And the blame, according to Scholes, falls squarely on Amorim for making the call to rotate his squad in league action.

Scholes goes a step further, saying Amorim appears to hold the league in contempt. "I think the acceptance has come from everyone," Scholes continued. "I think it's come from the manager, even though he won't admit it. He's not playing teams to win games of football in the league." The fans, he believes, have also accepted this disappointing state of affairs, viewing premier league games merely as obstacles to be overcome en route to European glory.

Scholes concludes that this attitude is damaging to the team's Premier League standing, declaring it "wrong" for a team like Man U, with their storied tradition, to play their league games with such a defeatist attitude. The Premier League, he insists, is the team's bread and butter, and it deserves better.

  1. "Despite the European success, Paul Scholes argues that the Premier League should not be neglected, as Manchester United should be competing in multiple competitions without sacrificing any one, as stated in his article for TNT Sports."
  2. "Scholes believes that the current strategy of prioritizing European competitions over the Premier League is damaging to the team's standing in the league, as evidenced by their current 15th place position."
  3. "The former Manchester United midfielder also criticizes Ruben Amorim for fielding a weaker side in Premier League games, using the defeat by Brentford as a prime example, and accuses the manager of holding the league in contempt, in contrast to the team's traditional importance in England's top-tier league."
