Man suffers distress after being ensnared in mountain trap at lofty altitude of 3000 meters in Almaty area

In the recent mountainous drama in Alma-Arasan, a harrowing tale unfolded last week. A 17-year-old adventurer, lost his bearings while scaling down a mountain, necessitating a desperate call for help.

The rescue mission faced formidable challenges, as Mother Nature herself seemed to be against them. A torrential downpour, thick mist, and abysmal visibility obstructed their search. But these resilient rescuers refused to be deterred, and after an arduous hunt, they finally located the lost lad. With a sigh of relief, they administered the necessary aid and led him safely to a nearby settlement. Miraculously, he didn't require any medical attention.

This wasn't the first brush with danger in Alma-Arasan. On May 7, another shocking event was reported - a devastating landslide in a popular tourist spot claimed the life of an unfortunate girl on May 2.

Now, diving deeper into the mountainous mayhem, recent reports from the Ministry of Emergency Situations highlight grim details. A tragic incident occurred near Gorelnik waterfall in the Almaty mountains on May 4, 2025. The lifeless body of a young woman was discovered at an altitude of 2500 meters. The cause of death remains undetermined, but eyewitnesses claim a deadly rockfall[1].

The rescue mission, involving a team of rescuers, medics, and a canine unit, managed to locate the body and hand it over to the authorities[1]. Since the beginning of 2025, the Almaty mountains have seen an unprecedented 80 rescue operations, rescuing over 100 tourists, including 20 children[1]. Despite these harrowing incidents, including the loss of another life to an avalanche[1], the heroic rescue efforts continue to save countless lives.

There is no direct mention of incidents in the Alma-Arasan Gorge, except for an initial report of a rockfall on May 2 that fortunately did not result in any casualties[1].
