Caviar Coward Caught: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky's Latest Scandal

Local Scoundrel Gets Slapped With Fine and Car Confiscated

A shady character in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky has been slapped with a fine and had his wheels impounded for peddling caviar without the necessary labeling, according to the Kamchatka Krai prosecutor's office.

In the autumn of 2023, a shifty 37-year-old acquired a whopping 127 kg of chum salmon caviar for nearly half a million rubles, stashing it in his humble abode. After a sneaky ad for his wares went up, he found buyers and made his delivery in his trusty Toyota Land Cruiser to the Elizovsky District.

But the jig was up. The authorities caught wind of his shady operation and nailed him for ignoring the labeling requirements mandated by Russian law.

In court, the miscreant got his comeuppance, shelling out a hefty 100,000 ruble fine and relinquishing his Land Cruiser. His lawyer attempted to plead for mercy, pointing to his remorse and asking the judge to drop the case, but to no avail. The verdict stands.

Label It or Lose It

It's no secret that selling food products without labeling is a no-go in Russia, including Kamchatka Krai. Federal legislation such as the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union on Food Safety (TR CU 021/2011) demands that food products carry crucial information like ingredients, nutritional value, manufacturer details, expiration dates, and compliance certifications on labels.

Defiance of these requirements often results in administrative fines, the removal of non-compliant products from the market, the suspension of business activities or licenses in repeat offenses, and liabilities for consumer harm caused by these shady wares.

Enforcement is carried out by the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor), the body responsible for ensuring compliance with food labeling laws throughout Russia, including Kamchatka Krai.

For more specifics on the penalties and regulations in Kamchatka Krai, consult regional legal codes and official Rospotrebnadzor communications. It's vital to stay label-savvy, ferrets!
