**Tragic Incident in Konaseema: Woman Murdered Over Refusal to Enter Sex Trade**
A 24-year-old woman, Oleti Naga Pushpa, lost her life in a horrific incident in Konaseema, Andhra Pradesh, on July 16, 2025. The incident, which occurred in Siddhartha Nagar, B Savaram village, under the Rajolu mandal, was a result of Pushpa's refusal to engage in sex work as demanded by her live-in partner, Sheik Shamma.
Pushpa, who had separated from her husband and lived separately with her son for about a year, had been in a relationship with Shamma for the past six to eight months. The fatal confrontation ensued following repeated demands and pressure from Shamma, who wanted Pushpa to enter the flesh trade. Each time she refused, it led to quarrels and, reportedly, physical assaults.
On the night of the incident, after a heated argument—which began in Amalapuram and continued after returning home—Shamma assaulted Pushpa. When her family members intervened, Shamma turned violent, attacking Pushpa’s mother, brother, and even her sister and brother-in-law with a knife, causing minor injuries. He then stabbed Pushpa multiple times in the chest and thighs; she died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.
Sheik Shamma, the accused, is a 22-year-old man from Kollavari Palem who worked at a mutton shop and had been living with Pushpa in B Savaram village. Police reports indicate that Shamma struggled with substance abuse, specifically ganja (cannabis) addiction, and was also frequently under the influence of alcohol. He had reportedly become suspicious of Pushpa, accusing her of infidelity in the weeks leading up to the murder. Shamma’s erratic behavior, fueled by substance abuse, was a recurring source of domestic tension.
The police have registered a case under Sections 103 (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to initial reports, Shamma fled the scene and was initially reported as absconding, with police launching search operations to apprehend him. However, more recent updates indicate that Shamma has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. The local police have formed multiple teams to ensure a thorough probe into the circumstances and to gather additional evidence.
