A serious crash took place on Sunday evening near Nörten-Hardenberg after a heavily intoxicated driver lost control of his car. The 50-year-old man from Neustadt am Rübenberge was driving with a blood alcohol level of 3.4 per mille—more than six times the legal limit. Authorities have since launched multiple criminal investigations into his actions.

The incident happened at 6:55 PM on December 21, 2025, along Federal Highway 3. The driver, who had no valid licence, reportedly reached for his phone while behind the wheel. His car suffered severe damage in the resulting collision, and he was injured badly enough to require hospital treatment.

Police later discovered the man was also using falsified documents. While the licence plates on his vehicle were genuine, other paperwork had been tampered with. Investigators have now opened three separate cases against him: driving without a licence, endangering traffic due to intoxication, and document forgery. The driver’s blood alcohol reading of 0.34% far exceeds Germany’s 0.05% limit for motorists. His condition, combined with the use of fake documents, has raised concerns about how he was able to operate a vehicle undetected until the crash.

The man remains under investigation for all three offences. His injuries were treated in hospital, though no updates on his condition have been released. Police continue to examine how he obtained the falsified documents and whether further charges may apply.
