Man detained in Yakutia after fatal nightclub shooting leaves 20-year-old dead

A 37-year-old man has been detained in Yakutia’s Mirninsky District on suspicion of murder. The incident began early on June 4, when a shooting outside a nightclub in Mirny left a 20-year-old local resident dead. Police launched an immediate manhunt before arresting the suspect two days later.

The confrontation unfolded in the early hours of June 4 near a nightclub in Mirny. According to investigators, the suspect fired a shotgun at the victim following a physical altercation. The 20-year-old suffered fatal wounds, while the attacker fled the scene with an accomplice.

A large-scale search operation was triggered shortly after. All local police units were mobilised, and the 'Intercept' plan was activated to track down the suspect. Authorities later discovered him hiding in the bed of an abandoned car in Kystyyr, around two kilometres from the village of Taas-Yuryakh. During interrogation, the detained man admitted to the shooting but claimed he had only intended to frighten the victim. He also revealed a prior criminal record, having been previously convicted in Verkhnevilyuysky District. The case has now been opened under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code, which pertains to murder.

The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues. Forensic teams are examining the weapon and gathering further evidence. A court will determine the next steps in the legal proceedings.
