Man departs from Cross River, arrives in Rivers State to appoint individuals – Peterside challenges Ibas' appointments
In a scathing attack, Atedo Peterside, founder of IBTC Bank, has taken aim at Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, for making unqualified appointments that have ignited an already volatile situation within the state.
During an interview on Arise News, Peterside lashed out at Ibas for appointing mediocre individuals to crucial positions in Rivers State, demanding that he explain the selection process behind these appointments, particularly in the Rivers State Electoral Commission and the local government areas.
"C'mon, Ibas! Explain to the nation how you picked these folks. Did you advertise the positions? Did you accept nominations? Did you scour Rivers State for the finest, most capable, worthy individuals with integrity?" a frustrated Peterside questioned.
Acknowledging his long-standing presence in Rivers State, Peterside emphasized that the people of the state are well-acquainted with each other and would not stand for being governored by underqualified individuals. He pointed out that such appointments, made with no transparency or accountability, disrespect the essence of the state and its resources.
The Shaky Foundation of Ibas' Appointment
Peterside expressed dismay over Ibas' conduct, pointing out that his assumption to office was questionable and far from regular.
"He slithered into the role in a shady manner. I'd say the powers-that-be were misguided," Peterside remarked, calling attention to the irregular appointment process. He further criticized the use of a voice vote to confirm Ibas' appointment, denouncing it as legally questionable and lacking transparency.
"Voice votes don't make any sense! It can never prove two-thirds!" Peterside exclaimed, highlighting the flawed process that took place in the state assembly when Ibas was appointed.
"Even in the House of Representatives, we don't even know who showed up to vote!" Peterside continued, reprimanding the lack of accountability and clarity in the appointment process.
Peterside also questioned Ibas' judgment and his understanding of his role as Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
"Watch your step, Ibas! You're treading on slippery ground! Did you really think making a few appointments would silence us? Appointments like those to the Rivers State Electoral Commission?"* Peterside said, calling his actions into question.
He emphasized that Ibas, who lacks a legitimate mandate, should have left the management of local governments to the senior full-time staff instead of making new appointments for the state.
Peterside further criticized Ibas' lack of local understanding, stating, "A man from Cross River State arrives in an already inflamed Rivers State to make appointments? I challenge him to explain his process to the nation!"
Peterside's assertions represent a call for transparency and accountability from Ibas, advocating for an end to these undemocratic practices.
"Frankly, it's disrespectful to the people of Rivers State. He needs to be hauled over the coals immediately. The message must be crystal-clear: we won't sit idly by while individuals are appointed to rule over our state and our resources," Peterside concluded.
