Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Caleb Eisworth Dies After Motorcycle Accident
Sergeant Caleb Eisworth, a 23-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department, tragically passed away on a specific day in 2025, following a motorcycle accident that occurred on June 16. He was 44 years old.
Eisworth, a recipient of the Department's Medal of Valor and multiple awards for heroism, was riding his motorcycle on Joor Road, heading to a funeral procession when a truck intentionally struck him at high speed. The collision dragged him several hundred feet underneath the vehicle.
The suspect, who bragged about the incident on social media, was arrested later that day. Initially charged with criminal damage to property, hate crimes, resisting an officer, and attempted first-degree murder, the suspect now faces first-degree murder charges and potentially the death penalty. The suspect's girlfriend was also arrested for obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact.
Eisworth's legs had to be amputated above the knee due to the extent of his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he passed away on August 10, 2025, nearly two months after the crash.
Baton Rouge Police Chief T.J. Morse released a statement regarding Eisworth's death, describing him as an "amazing officer" and a "good man." The community was asked to continue lifting the Eisworth family and the men and women of the Baton Rouge Police Department up in prayer.
In a statement made in June, Eisworth's family thanked the wider community for their support. They also asked people to say a prayer for First Responders and thank them when they see them.
A community and law enforcement funeral was held to honor Eisworth, with many officers and motorcycle enthusiasts attending from across Louisiana. Numerous fundraisers were hosted in Eisworth's honor as he worked to recover.
Eisworth leaves behind a wife and a 12-year-old daughter. District Attorney Hillar Moore plans to seek the death penalty in the case, but will consult with Eisworth's family before making a final decision.
The family's statement thanked the community for every good thought, prayer, and well wish they had sent. They expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support they had received during this difficult time.
