Man critically injured after illegal firework explodes in garden shed

A 33-year-old man from Upper Styria was injured on Wednesday evening when a firecracker exploded in his garden shed. The blast happened around 7:30 p.m. in Wartberg, within the Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district, leaving the man with multiple injuries and causing significant damage to the shed.

The incident took place as the man was smoking a cigarette inside the shed. Police reports confirm the firework, believed to have originated from Czechia, detonated unexpectedly. According to authorities, the device had been given to him by an acquaintance.

The man remains under medical care following the explosion. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the firework’s origin and how it reached the victim. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with improper handling of explosive devices.
