Man convicted and imprisoned for two years and three months for physically attacking MP Prisca Thevenot in the year 2024

In a court hearing on July 30, 2025, a 21-year-old man was sentenced to 23 months in prison for his involvement in an attack on Renaissance deputy Prisca Thevenot and others, just days before the second round of legislative elections in 2024.

The attack occurred in 2024, and the sentencing took place a year later. The defendant admitted to punching Madiba Ousmane Guirassy, but denied any other acts of violence. He contested being the author of the scooter blow that fractured Guirassy's jaw.

The attack also involved Thevenot's substitute Virginie Lanlo and two activists. According to Thevenot, the young attackers were reportedly waiting for a signal on who to hit. Lanlo was hit in the arm, and her car windshield was damaged during the violence. Guirassy was injured in the knee, abdomen, and hand.

Ilyacine Maallaoui, the defendant's lawyer, acknowledged an "abysmal stupidity" on the part of his client, but rejected any political motivation. Five other suspects, all minors, are believed to have participated in the attack and will be tried later before the juvenile court. The location of their trial is in Hauts-de-Seine.

Between the two rounds of the 2024 legislative elections, 51 candidates, substitutes, or activists have been attacked, according to the Ministry of the Interior. The sentence includes 18 months of probation and several obligations and restrictions.

Prisca Thevenot stated during the hearing that she has been "living in fear" since the incident. She did not provide further details about the attack or the subsequent sentencing. More focused or updated sources would be necessary for precise information about Thevenot's case.

The government expressed concern over the escalating violence in political circles during the 2024 legislative elections, as demonstrated by the court hearing that sentenced a man for attacking Prisca Thevenot and others, including her substitute Virginie Lanlo. The defendant was also charged with harming Madiba Ousmane Guirassy, and the trial of five other minors, believed to have participated in the attack, is scheduled to take place in Hauts-de-Seine, touching upon the realm of crime and justice. The sentencing highlighted a significant increase in election-related violence, with the Ministry of the Interior reporting 51 such incidents during the election period.
