Manchester City Kick off Premier League Campaign with Impressive Win
Manchester City began their 2025-26 Premier League campaign in style, securing a 4-0 victory against Wolves in their opening match. Erling Haaland, the club's new signing, scored twice, while Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, also new recruits, netted their debut goals for the club.
In a potential shift in the team's lineup, James Trafford could replace Ederson as the first-choice goalkeeper. The defence might see Tino Livramento or Nunes at right-back, Dias and Gvardiol as centre-backs, and Rayan Ait-Nouri at left-back. The midfield could feature Rodri (when fit), Tijjani Reijnders, and Rayan Cherki or Bernardo Silva, with Phil Foden, Haaland, and Omar Marmoush or Bobb on the wings.
Elsewhere, Liverpool started their title defence with a dramatic 4-2 win over Bournemouth on Friday. Tottenham also had a successful start, beating Burnley 3-0, with Richarlison scoring a brace and Brennan Johnson adding another goal.
Meanwhile, Sunderland made a strong return to the Premier League, winning their first match against West Ham 3-0. Wilson Isidor, Dan Ballard, and Eliezer Mayenda were the goal scorers for Sunderland. Granit Xhaka, another new signing, was in action as Sunderland claimed a 3-0 victory in their second match against West Ham.
Not all teams had a smooth start, however. Newcastle did not score in their match against Aston Villa, ending in a 0-0 draw. A notable incident occurred when Ezri Konsa received a red card for bringing down Antony Gordon during the match.
In other news, Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz scored a last-minute goal against Brighton, while Matt O'Riley scored a penalty for Brighton in the same match. Arsenal, who do not play until Sunday, will face Manchester United in their first match of the season.
Interestingly, the past two seasons have seen all three promoted teams relegated straight back to the second tier. As teams settle into the new season, it remains to be seen which teams will rise to the challenge and secure their place in the Premier League.
