Man arrested for secretly filming victim in Bukit Jalil mall toilet

A man in his 20s was arrested in Bukit Jalil on Thursday after allegedly filming another man in a shopping mall toilet. Police detained the suspect, a Chinese national, following a report from the victim who noticed the recording attempt.

The incident took place at around 11 am when the victim saw the suspect holding a mobile phone over the cubicle divider. The victim immediately alerted mall security, leading to the suspect's arrest at 1.28 pm.

During questioning, the man admitted to filming the victim. Authorities seized his phone and discovered several lewd videos stored in the device. Further checks revealed he had no valid travel documents and was staying in Malaysia illegally. The suspect is now under investigation for two offences. Police are probing the case under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting modesty. He is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for overstaying. A magistrate has remanded him for 14 days to assist with inquiries.

The case marks an unusual incident, as no similar reports of inappropriate behaviour in public toilets have been recorded in Malaysia over the past two years. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
