Man Admits to 25 Voyeurism Charges, Victims Speak Out

Kyle Hameluck, a 36-year-old man, pleaded guilty to 25 voyeurism charges. He secretly photographed women through their windows while they were nude or undressing near the University of Saskatchewan in 2020. At his sentencing hearing, Hameluck apologized and expressed a desire to address his behavior and participate in programming.

Hameluck's actions caused distress to his victims. Five women submitted impact statements, describing feelings of uncleanliness, constant surveillance, and fear of being unsafe in their own homes. The court heard that Hameluck had prior convictions for similar offences in 2017. Videos and photos of fully or partially nude women were found on his devices, with some targeted more than once.

The Crown and defence jointly recommended a sentence of just under three years. Conditions included a curfew and mandatory participation in sexual offender programming. However, Justice Krista Zerr reserved her decision due to disagreement between the defence and Crown on whether Hameluck should be required to take addictions counselling and abstain from cannabis for a year. Her decision is expected on Thursday morning.

Hameluck's actions have had a significant impact on his victims. The court will decide on an appropriate sentence and conditions to address his behavior and protect the public.
