Man Accused of Murdering Lee Slattery, 15 Years Old Case, Brought Before Court in Limerick
In a shocking turn of events, Kurt Ryan (32) from Cliona Park, Moyross, has been charged with the murder of Lee Slattery (25) from Ballynanty Beg, Limerick. The alleged crime took place on or about May 28th, 2010.
Ryan made his initial appearance in Limerick District Court on the aforementioned charge. Detective Sergeant Micheal Ryan, of Mayorstone Garda Station, Limerick, provided evidence of Ryan's arrest, charging, and cautioning. Ryan, however, made no reply to the murder charge.
Due to the gravity of the charge, no bail was sought for Ryan as the District Court does not deal with bail hearings for people charged with murder. As a result, Ryan was remanded in custody to appear before Limerick District Court again on September 23rd.
The arrest of Ryan is part of a wider inquiry into the murder of Lee Slattery. Six people, including Ryan, were arrested earlier this week in connection with the case. The files of the other arrested individuals, who were released without charge, will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further investigation.
Three of the six people arrested, two men and a woman all in their 30s, remain in custody at the time of writing. A woman in her 50s, who was also arrested, was released without charge.
Lee Slattery was reported missing by his family on May 27th, 2010. Tragically, Slattery's body was found buried in a shallow woodland grave on the outskirts of Limerick on May 31st, 2010.
It is important to note that Kurt Ryan had not been previously arrested or directly linked to the murders of Lee Slattery in Limerick before he was brought to trial.
