Mamdani takes the lead in the mayoral race, capturing 39% of the votes in the survey
In the ongoing race for New York City Mayor, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani continues to hold a significant lead, according to a series of recent polls.
The New York Times/Siena College poll, conducted between Sept. 2 and 6, found that 46% of respondents would vote for Mamdani, with Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa receiving the support of 13% and independent candidate Mayor Eric Adams securing 12%. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, garnered 25% of the vote.
However, a new survey commissioned by the national advocacy organization Decriminalize Sex Work shows Mamdani with a slightly reduced lead, with 39% of the vote. This is compared to some previous polls that indicated a larger margin for Mamdani.
The polls have consistently placed Mamdani as the front-runner, with Cuomo trailing behind in second place, generally about 15 to 20 points behind Mamdani. Sliwa and Adams follow Cuomo in the polls.
Quinnipiac University's poll found that 45% of likely voters support Mamdani, while another survey from PIX11, Emerson College and The Hill found 43% support for Mamdani and 7% support for Adams.
It's worth noting that the majority of respondents in the polls were registered Democrats (69%), with a smaller percentage identifying as Republicans (13%), Working Families Party members (4%), Conservative Party members (1%), or independents/niche political parties (13%).
In a two-way match-up between Mamdani and Cuomo, other recent polls have found a much narrower race, with Mamdani still appearing to lead. However, there are no search results specifying who conducted the most recent poll in September 2021 regarding the New York City mayoral election and tracking Eric Adams compared to other candidates and Donald Trump.
As the election approaches, the race remains tight, with Mamdani maintaining a significant lead in the polls. The final outcome will depend on the votes of New Yorkers come election day.
