Zohran Mamdani Leads in New York City Mayoral Race, According to Multiple Polls

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, has emerged as the front-runner in the race, according to several recent polls.

The latest poll showing Mamdani as the favorite was published on Tuesday, 17th September 2025, as reported by The New York Times. This survey, conducted by The New York Times/Siena College, found Mamdani leading with 46 percent support.

Prior to this, a poll by Public Policy Polling found Mamdani with a lead of 39% in the race. Roughly 69% of the individuals surveyed were registered with the Democratic Party, while roughly 13% were registered with the Republican Party. Roughly 4% were registered with the Working Families Party.

Another poll, conducted by PIX11, Emerson College, and The Hill, found 43% support for Mamdani and 7% support for current Mayor Eric Adams, who is also running as an independent candidate.

Quinnipiac University conducted a poll recently, finding 45% of likely voters support Mamdani. This poll had a 4.2-point margin of error.

Other recent polls exploring a two-way match up between Mamdani and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent candidate, found a much narrower race, with Mamdani still leading. 25% of respondents said they would vote for Cuomo, while 12% said they would vote for Mayor Adams.

It's worth noting that the Public Policy Polling survey did not measure the vote breakdown for a consolidated field of candidates. However, the pollster accurately predicted Mamdani's lead in the Democratic mayoral primary in June.

The Republican nominee, Curtis Sliwa, got the support of 13% of respondents in the Public Policy Polling survey.

A recent poll, commissioned by the national advocacy organization Decriminalize Sex Work, aimed to determine New Yorkers' opinions on decriminalizing prostitution. The details of this poll's results were not specified in the available information.

As the general election approaches, it remains to be seen if Mamdani can maintain his lead and secure the mayoral seat. The polls suggest a strong showing for the Democratic nominee, but the race is far from over.
