Malaysia’s top duo falls to Thai rivals in SEA Games semi-final upset

Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, suffered a straight-sets defeat in the semi-finals of the SEA Games Thailand 2025. The loss came at the hands of Thailand’s fourth-seeded duo, Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat, ending their run in the tournament prematurely.

The Malaysian pair fell to the home favourites with scores of 15-21 and 16-21. This marked their first-ever loss to Oupthong and Sudjaipraparat, a setback that visibly disappointed Tang Jie, who had hoped to secure a spot in the final.

The loss ends Tang Jie and Ee Wei’s campaign at the SEA Games Thailand 2025. Their opponents, Oupthong and Sudjaipraparat, will now advance to the final. This result marks a turning point for the Malaysian pair, who had previously dominated their group-stage matches.
