Malaysian students trapped in flooded Hat Yai hotel as supplies dwindle

Severe flooding in Hat Yai, Thailand, has left Malaysian students stranded without basic supplies. A group of 36 students and four lecturers from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) are stuck at the Wangburapa Grand Hotel, where electricity and water have been cut off. Food is running low, and rising water levels have blocked all vehicle access to the area.

The stranded group includes Mimi Nadzirah Afiqah Md Suhaimi, an accounting student from UUM, and Haniswati Rahmat, a student from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). Haniswati was meant to attend her convocation ceremony but remains trapped in the flooded city.

The stranded students remain on the fifth floor of the hotel, waiting for conditions to improve. Rescue efforts are being coordinated, but access remains difficult due to high water levels. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as rain persists in the region.
