Malaysian Military Gear Up for Monsoon Season; Mohd Nizam Assures Swift Action in Flood-Affected Regions
The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is readying itself for the upcoming monsoon season, with a focus on flood-prone locations. The preparations include monitoring these areas and conducting simulations ahead of the season to ensure swift and effective response when disaster strikes.
The MAF's primary task during such crises is to assist the people and local authorities in managing the flood crisis. Nearly 600 personnel and officers of the MAF were deployed to assist flood and landslide victims in Sabah during the current monsoon season, with mobilization occurring as soon as the state declares an emergency or requests assistance.
The MAF Day celebration was a lively event, with members of the public arriving as early as 6.30 am at the air base. The celebration was held in conjunction with a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Carnival, running for two days, which showcased the synergy of MAF's assets and capabilities in defending the nation's sovereignty. The demonstration highlighted the MAF's credibility and capabilities in fulfilling its primary mission of safeguarding the country's security and sovereignty.
Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar stated that these preparations are part of the ongoing efforts to ensure the MAF is always prepared to mobilize the necessary assets if required. Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam also expressed that the MAF would continue to strengthen defence diplomacy with friendly nations.
In addition to disaster relief efforts, the MAF contributes to global peace through its involvement in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations, Asean initiatives, and natural disaster relief efforts. Mohd Nizam highlighted the importance of veteran welfare, noting that the Department of Veteran Affairs, together with the MAF, would continue to explore opportunities to improve the standard of living for veterans, including issues related to outstanding allowance claims.
Gen Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithnain, and Air Force Chief Gen Datuk Seri Muhamad Norazlan Aris were present at a press conference to discuss the MAF's readiness and ongoing efforts. Mohd Nizam stated that the MAF Day event should not be seen merely as a carnival, but should leave an impact on visitors and inspire more to join the force.
The MAF's contributions to global peace are not limited to disaster relief and peacekeeping operations. The force also plays a crucial role in maintaining the country's security and sovereignty, as demonstrated by the recent demonstration held during the MAF Day celebration. The demonstration served as a reminder of the MAF's commitment to defending the nation and its people.
