Malaysia extends RM300 monthly diesel aid to combat rising fuel costs

The Malaysian government will keep its Budi Diesel aid programme running at RM300 per month in April. This move aims to shield diesel users from rising global fuel costs while supporting those struggling with higher living expenses. The latest round of payments, totalling RM102 million, begins on April 8 and will assist around 340,000 recipients. Since its introduction in May 2024, the Budi Diesel scheme has already distributed RM1.12 billion in cash assistance. The programme was designed to offset the impact of fluctuating fuel prices on vulnerable groups. Alongside the diesel aid, an extra RM100 will remain in place, bringing total support to RM300 for individuals and those under the Budi Agri-Commodity scheme.

Applications for the aid stay open year-round through the official website. To prevent misuse, authorities have tightened enforcement, ensuring subsidies reach only eligible recipients. The government has also stressed its commitment to fiscal responsibility, balancing support for citizens with broader economic stability.

Looking ahead, officials are exploring medium- and long-term strategies to keep the subsidy system sustainable and transparent. Market conditions will be closely watched, with further action possible if energy supply or pricing faces disruption. The continued RM300 monthly aid will help ease financial pressure on targeted groups amid global energy challenges. With stricter oversight and ongoing evaluations, the government aims to maintain both public support and economic stability. Recipients can expect the next payment from April 8, while new applicants can still register online.
