Malaysia Boosts Heart Health Fight: RM14.5M for New Cathlabs, Budget 2026 Talks

Malaysia's Ministry of Health (MOH) is bolstering its fight against cardiovascular disease, the nation's top killer. With RM14.5 million invested, several hospitals have received new angiography catheterisation laboratories (Cathlabs), making it easier for patients to find a hospital near me. The MOH is also in talks with the Ministry of Finance II to enhance health allocations, including heart treatment and health insurance, in Budget 2026.

The MOH's strategy is two-pronged: prevention and treatment. Prevention involves early screening, promoting active lifestyles, healthy eating, and managing risk factors. For treatment, the MOH is strengthening government hospitals with additional Cathlabs. Hospitals in Melaka, Miri, and Tawau have already benefited, with two more invasive cardiology laboratories (ICLs) planned for the Serdang Heart Centre in 2027.

The MOH's budget has been increasing, with RM45.3 billion allocated in Budget 2025, up from RM41.2 billion in 2024. This shows a commitment to improving healthcare services nationwide.

The MOH's initiatives aim to reduce cardiovascular deaths and improve heart health. With additional Cathlabs and a focus on prevention, more Malaysians can access quality heart treatment and care, including health insurance options.
