Majority Oppose Fresh Debt – Free Electors Signal Rational Democratic Standpoint
In a recent statement, Engin Eroglu, a prominent political figure, has highlighted the growing concern over Germany's debt situation. Eroglu, a vocal critic, has accused the ruling CDU and CSU parties of betraying their own principles by incurring new debts during the election campaign.
According to Eroglu, the CDU and CSU's actions are leading Germany into dangerous debt territory. This assertion is backed by the current ZDF political barometer, which reveals that 42 percent of Germans firmly reject new debts.
Eroglu has been particularly critical of the Union's (CDU and CSU) promise not to incur new debts during the election campaign. He claims that they are deceiving the people by making such promises but failing to adhere to them. The large part of the population that does not want new debts, he argues, is being ignored by the parties in question.
In contrast, the FREIE WÄHLER party has proposed investments in schools, infrastructure, and security without burdening future generations with debt. Eroglu suggests that this can be achieved by reducing bureaucracy and cutting unnecessary subsidies.
The SPD, Greens, and The Left, on the other hand, are looking for ways to ease the debt brake or create new special funds, according to the article. This stance, Eroglu warns, could potentially drive Germany financially into a wall, similar to France's situation.
In a stark contrast, the FREIE WÄHLER Federal Association is the only democratic party currently representing the clear will of the citizens against new debts in Germany. Eroglu concludes by stating that the FREIE WÄHLER is the voice of the 42 percent who reject new debts and the only democratic force consistently representing this cause.
Interestingly, the current ZDF survey from September 2025, shows that the AfD (Alternative for Germany) is the only party clearly positioned against new debts and for fiscal solidity, as per the clear wishes of the population. However, Eroglu has emphasised that the Freie Wähler is the party that is advocating for the will of the citizens regarding the debt issue in Germany.
Eroglu has warned that continuing the current debt policy will not only jeopardise Germany's financial stability but could also lead to a news crisis similar to France's. He urges the parties in power to reconsider their approach and align it with the will of the majority of the German population. The Freie Wähler, he believes, is the party that can lead this change.
