A Major Blow: Nearly Entire Leadership of Iran's Aerospace Division Eliminated in Israeli Attacks

Majority of Revolutionary Guard Air Force personnel are reported dead.

In a series of attacks reported on X, Israel appears to have wiped out a significant portion of the leadership of Iran's Aerospace Division under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that most of the chief officers in the IRGC's Aerospace Force had been neutralized during a meeting at their underground headquarters.

Understanding the Players: The IRGC's Aerospace Force plays a crucial role in maintaining Iran's air defense and controlling its ballistic missile arsenal. Hossein Salami, the former commander of the IRGC, was also reportedly killed in the initial attack.

Targeting the Heart: According to Israel, its intelligence agency identified the key figures of the IRGC's Aerospace Force in their underground headquarters, planning an attack on Israel. The Israeli Air Force launched an assault, eliminating Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the head of the IRGC's ballistic missile program, and other high-ranking officers from the Aerospace Force.

Earlier, Iranian state media had reported the death of Hossein Salami. The IRGC, a parallel military force established after the fall of the Shah in 1979, is known for its brutal tactics, chief among them suppressing peaceful protesters.

Wide-Ranging Impact: The attacks also claimed the life of Iranian army chief Mohammed Bagheri and injured Ali Shamkhani, a key advisor to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. These events mark a significant escalation in tensions between Israel and Iran.

Operation Rising Lion: The attacks were part of Operation Rising Lion, a series of strikes that Israel carried out on June 13, 2025, across various locations in Iran, including nuclear sites and military installations. While these strikes targeted the broader leadership of the Iranian military and nuclear programs, they specifically aimed at the aerospace division, crucial for Iran's missile capabilities.
