Majority of Poles Reject Ukrainian Compromises with Russia for Peace
In a recent poll conducted by the IBRiiS research institute for the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, a divide among Poles on whether concessions should be made to Russia in pursuit of peace has been revealed.
The poll results indicate that 50.5% of Poles oppose concessions to Russia, while 37.4% support them. A further 21.2% answered "rather not," and 29.3% answered "definitely not" when asked if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should agree to concessions towards Russia to end the ongoing conflict. In contrast, 12.7% of Poles answered "definitely yes," and 24.7% answered "rather yes."
The poll also showed sharp political divides, with 77% of voters backing Poland's pro-European ruling coalition opposing concessions, and 12% supporting them. Among opposition supporters, 48% were in favor of concessions, while 36% were against.
However, the poll results do not provide information on the methodology or sample size used in the survey. Additionally, they do not suggest any change in Polish public opinion on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Furthermore, the poll does not indicate the reasons why Poles oppose or support concessions to Russia, nor does it provide specific information about Polish parties or political groups that have the most supporters for concessions towards Russia.
The poll results do not provide information on the specific concessions being considered. Among people who do not vote or remain undecided, 57% supported concessions and 41% opposed them in the same poll.
The poll findings come at a time when the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, with no clear resolution in sight. As the situation evolves, it will be interesting to see how Polish public opinion on the matter develops further. The poll results were published in the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita.
