Majority of Americans Doubt Trump's Ability to Persuade Putin

Among Left Party supporters, 51% disagree with the notion that Ukraine should make territorial concessions for an agreement with Putin. In contrast, among AfD supporters, 86% believe that Ukraine should be prepared to make territorial concessions for an agreement with Putin. Among Green Party supporters, 66% disagree with this notion.
The recent Trump-Putin summit in Alaska on August 16, 2021, which ended without any deal on a ceasefire, likely reinforced these doubts in Germany regarding Trump's effectiveness as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict. Trump has dampened expectations regarding the summit, describing it as an "exploratory meeting" for Ukraine's future. The margin of error for the Forsa poll is plus/minus 3 percentage points.
Given Germany's strong support for Ukraine and cautious stance toward Russia, many in the German public and political establishment probably view Trump's engagement with Putin with reserve or concern, reflecting broader doubts about his diplomatic influence in this context.
