Major League Baseball team, the Houston Astros, put Yordan Alvarez on the Injured List and activated Isaac Paredes in preparation for a crucial series against the Seattle Mariners.

The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners are set to face off in a crucial series starting on Friday, with the winner taking the lead in the American League West. Both teams are currently tied for first place, and the outcome of this series could determine the division champion.

For the Astros, the series holds even more significance as they look to solidify their position following a surprise trade at the deadline. Carlos Correa, a seasoned third baseman, has joined the team to fill the void left by the absence of Isaac Paredes.

Paredes, who was originally obtained by the Astros from the Chicago Cubs as part of the Kyle Tucker trade, has been a valuable asset this season. In 94 games, he has hit .259/.359/.470 (128 OPS+) with 19 home runs and 50 runs batted in. His contributions were worth an estimated 2.5 Wins Above Replacement, according to Baseball-Reference's calculations, and he was even named an AL All-Star this season.

However, Paredes has been sidelined since July 19 due to a strained right hamstring. He has now been reinstated from the injured list just before the series begins.

With Yordan Alvarez out due to a significant left ankle sprain, Paredes is expected to slot in as the Astros' designated hitter for this pivotal series. Alvarez's current injury is significant, and he is uncertain to return to the lineup this season.

The Astros have also made roster adjustments to accommodate these injuries. They have placed both Alvarez and Kaleb Ort on the Injured List, with Ort being transferred to the 60-day IL to create space on the 40-player roster.

It is possible that the Astros could have Paredes and Correa split time at third base. The other player could slot in as the Astros' designated hitter, depending on how both players perform during the series.

The stakes are high for both teams, as MLB no longer plays Game 163s, and ties are settled based on head-to-head records. If the Astros win the series, they will also win the head-to-head season series against the Mariners.

This series promises to be an exciting and closely contested battle between two of the best teams in the American League. Fans can look forward to seeing how the Astros' new additions perform and whether they can secure the division title.
