Houston Astros' Slugger Yordan Alvarez Sidelined, Isaac Paredes Returns

In a blow for the Houston Astros, star outfielder Yordan Alvarez was forced to leave Monday's game against the Texas Rangers after spraining his left ankle while scoring from first base on a throwing error in the first inning. The injury is significant, and Alvarez will be out for some time, forcing him to remain on the injured list.

Meanwhile, the Astros received a boost as Isaac Paredes was activated off the injured list and took the field at designated hitter batting third on Friday night. Paredes had been sidelined since sustaining a right hamstring strain at Seattle on July 19.

Paredes, who had been at the Astros' minor league facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, for the last two weeks, admitted he wasn't 100 percent but was "close to it." Manager Joe Espada expressed his excitement to have Paredes back with the team, praising his contributions to the lineup.

Paredes has been making a strong comeback during his rehabilitation, boasting a batting average of .455. On the season, he is hitting .259 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs. Alvarez, on the other hand, has been limited to 48 games this season due to a broken right hand, batting .273 with six home runs and 27 RBIs.

The Astros and the Seattle Mariners were tied atop the AL West before this weekend's series, with the teams having split the season series 5-5. The injury to Alvarez and the return of Paredes could have a significant impact on the standings in the final weeks of the season.

In a corresponding move, the Astros transferred right-hander Kaleb Ort to the 60-day injured list. As the Astros continue to battle for the AL West title, the team will look to Paredes to provide a spark offensively in Alvarez's absence.
