Rising Star Ethan Holliday Makes Professional Debut with Colorado Rockies
Ethan Holliday, the highly-touted shortstop prospect and son of seven-time MLB All-Star Matt Holliday, made his professional debut with the Colorado Rockies' Single-A affiliate, the Fresno Grizzlies, on Tuesday night.
In his debut game against the Stockton Ports, Holliday showcased his offensive potential, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a single and a double, earning his first extra-base hit in the 5th inning. While his professional stats are limited, early reports suggest a promising batting line with an on-base percentage around .500 and slugging near .750.
Holliday, who was the 4th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, had an exceptional senior season at Stillwater High School (Oklahoma), boasting a .611 batting average, 19 home runs, 64 RBIs, a 1.295 slugging percentage, and a 2.038 OPS. He was recognised as Baseball America's High School Player of the Year and was considered the top high school prospect entering the draft.
At 18 years old, Holliday is a 6'4" left-handed batter and right-handed thrower, known for his power potential and advanced hitting skills for his age. He is viewed as a franchise cornerstone prospect, likely to progress through the Rockies' farm system over the next few years.
Matt Holliday, Ethan's father, started his own MLB career with the Colorado Rockies, having been drafted by the team in 1998. Matt enjoyed a successful 15-year career in the majors, spending his first five seasons with the Rockies before moving to other teams. He retired as a Rockie, ending his career where it all began.
Meanwhile, Ethan's younger brother, Jackson, is currently the second baseman for the Baltimore Orioles.
As Ethan continues to develop in the minors, he is expected to be a key part of the Rockies' future. His professional journey is just beginning, and fans are eager to see how he progresses in the coming seasons.
