Major League Baseball Alumni Play Significant Role in Strategizing All-Star Week Activities
The city of Atlanta is gearing up for a week-long baseball extravaganza as the Atlanta Braves prepare to host the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game at their home ground, Truist Park. The event, scheduled for July 12-15, will feature a series of engaging activities and events, making it more than just the main All-Star Game.
On Monday, July 14, the T-Mobile Home Run Derby will take centre stage, showcasing the league’s top sluggers competing in a bracketed home run hitting contest. Following the Derby, a drone show will illuminate the Atlanta sky, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening.
The MLB Futures Game, featuring top minor league prospects, will take place earlier in the week. Chipper Jones, a former Brave, will manage the National League prospects, while Marquis Grissom Jr., a promising right-handed pitching prospect, will represent the team. Marquis Grissom Sr., a former Brave, will manage the American League team.
A celebrity softball game will follow the Futures Game, featuring a mix of local and national celebrities. Team managers include Jermaine Dupri and Javy Lopez, both former All-Stars.
The 2025 MLB Draft will take place on Monday, July 14, at the Coca-Cola Roxy in The Battery Atlanta, marking the first in-person draft held in Atlanta during All-Star week.
The All-Star Red Carpet Show, scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, will showcase the players’ arrival and their outfits before the game, airing live on MLB Network.
The Capital One All-Star Village, located at the Cobb Galleria Centre, will provide fans with a range of activities throughout the All-Star Week, including live entertainment, interactive games, batting cages, photo opportunities, food vendors, and more.
Additional fan experiences and musical performances are planned around the ballpark and the surrounding Battery Atlanta entertainment district, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees.
The Braves have a rich history of hosting All-Star games, having called five cities home: Braves Field, Boston (1936 All-Star Game), Milwaukee County Stadium (1955 All-Star Game), Atlanta Fulton County Stadium (1972 All-Star Game), Turner Field (2000 All-Star Game), and now Truist Park. However, this will be the first All-Star Game held at Truist Park.
Notable figures such as Dale Murphy, Javy Lopez, Andres Galarraga, and Brian Snitker, all former All-Stars and Braves, will participate in the All-Star Game events. Hank Aaron, who spent all but two of his 23 major-league seasons with the Braves, will be honoured at the All-Star Game with a special in-game tribute.
Andruw Jones, a former Brave who starred at Turner Field, will honour that former Olympic stadium by throwing out the first pitch. Jones is arguably a leading contender for the Hall of Fame's Class of 2026.
Chipper Jones, who is currently representing Truist Park as a part-time batting coach for the Atlanta Braves, will not throw out a first pitch before the All-Star Game, but he will manage the National League prospects.
Atlanta city and tourism officials expect a financial windfall of $50-$100 million for local businesses during the All-Star week. This baseball festival promises to be a significant event for the city and its residents.
