Major Blow to Fuel Theft: Authorities Seize Sophisticated Illicit Refinery in Querétaro

Authorities in Querétaro dealt a significant blow to energy theft operations with the seizure of a major illicit refinery. The Attorney General's Office of the Republic (AGOR) led a four-hour operation that resulted in the discovery and dismantling of a sophisticated illegal refinery, along with the seizure of two tanker trucks loaded with hydrocarbons.

The refinery, disguised as a recycling facility, was located next to Chevron station number 9250 on the Tijuana-Tecate free road. It was equipped with artisanal boilers, distribution ducts, dispensing pumps, and tanks filled with gasoline and diesel, capable of holding up to 400,000 liters of fuel. Pemex technicians swiftly disabled the illegal connection to the main duct supplying the city, preventing further energy theft.

The operation, involving forensic experts and chemical specialists, also led to the seizure of 60,000 liters of stolen energy from a storage center in Tijuana, disguised as a container storage facility. No arrests were made during the operation, but investigations and surveillance are ongoing to apprehend those responsible.

The seizure of the illicit refinery in Querétaro is considered a major victory in the ongoing fight against identity theft. The refinery was one of the largest energy theft centers detected in the region, and its dismantling is expected to significantly disrupt illicit activities. Authorities continue to monitor and investigate the situation to ensure the safety and security of the public and the integrity of Mexico's energy supply.
