Major B57 road renovation disrupts traffic near Aachen until 2026

The Landesbetrieb Straßenbau Nordrhein-Westfalen has initiated a significant renovation project along the B57, also known as Eupener Straße, between Aachen city limits and the German-Belgian border. The project, set to conclude in late February 2026, involves resurfacing the roadway and improving both pedestrian and cycle paths at a total cost of approximately €2.1 million.

The renovation began on a Monday shortly before winter 2025 and is expected to last until spring 2026. During this period, the pedestrian and cycle path will be closed between the junctions of Pommerotter Weg and Augustinerweg/Rotsiefweg. To ensure safety during construction, Eupener Straße will be reduced to one lane with temporary traffic lights in place.

To accommodate users of the pedestrian and cycle paths, alternative routes have been established. Cyclists will be directed through a detour in the Aachen Forest, while pedestrians can utilise the forest's hiking trails as an alternative route.

The renovation project, led by North Rhine-Westphalia’s state road authority, Straßen.NRW, is set to fully resurface the roadway of B57 on the same stretch under a complete closure, expected to take about two weeks in March or April 2026. The total cost for the renovation is approximately €2.1 million, with the project aiming to improve safety and accessibility for all users of the roadway and paths.
