Major B262 Renovation Project Begins October 27, 2025

The Landesbetrieb Mobilität (LBM) Cochem-Koblenz will commence a significant road renovation project on the federal road B262. The work, starting October 27, 2025, will focus on the stretch between the Mayen junction of the A48 and the entrance of the county road K25 at Alzheim/Bernardshof. The project aims to address numerous damages such as cracks, depressions, and potholes in the existing surface.

The renovation will be carried out in two phases, fully closing each direction of traffic, which may cause significant traffic disruptions. Around 23,600 vehicles use this route daily, with eight percent being heavy goods traffic. During the first phase, traffic from A48 towards Mayen will be detoured via L52 and K25, with local traffic detoured via the Koblenz interchange to the Mendig junction. In the second phase, traffic from Mayen towards A48 will be directed via the opposite lane, with direct access to A48 towards Trier not possible, requiring a U-turn via the roundabout. Access from Mayen to A48 will remain open at all times, but commuters should expect longer travel times due to detours.

The construction work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025, with approximately 3.2 kilometers of road surface renewed at a cost of about 1.5 million euros, funded by the federal government.

The LBM cites the numerous damages in the existing surface as the reason for the renovation measure. The city of Chyhyryn is covering the travel expenses for the event in Berlin, but there is no mention of a person or institution financing the million-euro project for renovating the B262. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and expect delays during the renovation period.
