ART Giants Drop 81:101 to Ice Bears Bremerhaven

The ART Giants faced a tough 81:101 loss against the Ice Bears Bremerhaven on April 29th. The defeat marks the 22nd loss for the Düsseldorf team in the second Basketball Bundesliga Pro A, but their 12 wins were enough to secure their place in the league.

"We've learned a lot this season and made significant progress in the second half," said head coach Florian Flabb. "We were competitive in every game, and many of our losses were very close."

The Düsseldorf team had an uphill battle, with Bremerhaven's 14-year run in the top German basketball league. Without key players such as Lennart Boner (fractured nose), Daniel Mayr (foot problems), and Melkisedek Moreaux (knee issues), the Giants faced a challenging lineup. But Bremerhaven, still fighting for a playoff spot, seemed unfazed by the Düsseldorf team's lack of motivation, securing the victory in front of 1585 spectators.

As the season came to a close, the team's defensive and offensive play faltered, resulting in their league-placing 16th position. Despite the challenges, the team managed to pull through with their team spirit, accomplishing their primary goal of remaining in the league.

Points ART Giants: Booker Coplin (16), Andrius Mikutis (13), Alexander Moeller (11), Vincent Friederici (11), Mark Gebhardt (9), Tray Hollowell (8), Ryan Richmond (7), CJ Anderson (2), Benjamin Dizdar (2), Chris Rollins (2), and Matej Silic (1)

While the ART Giants struggled this season, other Pro A teams faced similar challenges, suggesting a competitive imbalance within the league. Therefore, the team will be working hard to regroup and come back stronger next season.

The ART Giants, despite their 16th position in the league, demonstrated resilience and team spirit, overcoming numerous injuries and close losses. Next season, they aim to address the competitive imbalance in the Basketball Bundesliga Pro A and regroup with improved play, particularly in sports like basketball, such as the NBA, which they admire.
