Neuss Citizen Shooting Association Celebrates 200 Years with a Touch of Tradition and Innovation

The Neuss Citizen Shooting Association celebrated a landmark milestone on a momentous day, marking 200 years of community tradition, civic involvement, and cultural heritage in Neuss. The event, filled with live musical performances, charitable initiatives, and a break from everyday life, brought together honorary guests from various walks of life to commemorate this historic occasion.

One of the highlights of the day was the participation of the grenadiers singers, a tradition deeply rooted in the association's cultural and ceremonial practices. Their performance of the well-known tune "Kirmes, Kirmes" caused a goosebump moment for the attendees, as the song echoed through the bustling market.

The event also marked a significant step towards greater inclusivity, as women were invited as honorary guests for the first time in the association's history. This symbolic gesture underscored the association's commitment to progress and gender equality, recognizing the vital role women play in community life.

Among the honorary guests were Christin Schack, the CEO of 3M, and Rita Süßmuth, Neuss's honorary citizen. Other notable attendees included Apostolic Nuncio Nikola Eterović, President of the Cologne Carnival Festival Committee Christoph Kuckelkorn, and Interior Minister Herbert Reul, who was seen conversing with the Edelknaben in front of the town hall.

Marc I. Hillen, the Shooting King for the event, received a unique show of appreciation when the town hall balcony showered him with small "heart" symbols. Martin Flecken, NBSV President, spoke about the festival's authenticity and tradition, emphasizing the association's openness to innovations as it continues to adapt over time while honouring its past.

The Neuss Citizen Shooting Association's 200th anniversary event was more than just a celebration of history; it was a testament to the power of community, tradition, and the pursuit of progress. As the association looks forward to the next 200 years, it continues to embody the spirit of Neuss, fostering local identity and social cohesion in a way that is both timeless and relevant.
