Karim Onisiwo, a star striker for Bundesliga's FSV Mainz 05, is calling it quits on his international soccer career with Austria's national team. Recently, the Austrian Football Association announced Onisiwo's decision, citing both sporting and personal reasons for his departure.

The 31-year-old Onisiwo, delighted to represent his country, has played 24 matches so far, scoring a single goal. However, he's decided to step away, making the announcement last week. He shared, "This decision wasn't easy since I was happy to be nominated and enjoyed representing Austria. Both sporting and personal factors played a role in my resignation."

Ralf Rangnick, Austria's team manager, expressed support for Onisiwo. He mentioned that open and honest communication was maintained throughout their discussions about Onisiwo's decision to retire from international soccer.

Onisiwo is now taking advantage of this opportunity to focus on his club career in Germany, eager to compete in the European Championship. "I shared my thoughts about ending my international career with him sometime ago," Rangnick explained.

As Austria and Belgium have already secured their spots for the 2024 European Championship (June 14 to July 14), Onisiwo will focus on his club and personal life, leaving his international career behind.

Karim Onisiwo, a prominent figure in Bundesliga, will leave Austria's national team behind for personal and sporting reasons. Despite his contributions in 24 matches and scoring one goal, Onisiwo has chosen to focus on his club career in Germany for now.
