Barbara Rupp, a renowned figure in the city of Mainz, Germany, left an indelible mark on the city's history, particularly through her longstanding involvement with the Mainz Unterhaus, the lower council or assembly in the city's governance.

Rupp's contributions to Mainz began in 1982 when she was one of the seven founding members of the Mainz Unterhaus Support Association. Her tenure as a council member spanned from 1982 to 2008, during which she served as vice-chair from 1982 to 1983 and then as chairperson from 1983 to 2008.
