Bundesliga team FSV Mainz 05 has vented their frustrations over the German Football Association's scheduling for their DFB Pokal match against Dynamo Dresden. The game, taking place in Dresden on August 18 at 6:00 PM, has upset the 05ers, who felt the timing is less than advantageous.

Mainz's discontent derives from their UEFA Conference League playoff leg landing three days after the scheduled cup match. Despite the draw taking place on August 4, the unusual scheduling lacks adequate recovery time for the team, given an already arduous start to the season and lengthy travel obligations, now requiring them to arrange five crucial games in a 14-day span.

Christian Heidel, the team's sporting director, shared his thoughts:

Mainz: Canaletto and the Calendar Clash

Reportedly, the DFB justified the scheduling constraints imposed by local security authorities due to Dresden's annual city festival "Canaletto," happening from August 15 to 17. Despite early revelations about the concerns of security forces, Mainz's efforts in rethinking the schedule via various avenues – including political ones – were unsuccessful.

"We knew of the security concerns early on and tried to seek out alternative scheduling through a variety of channels, even those political in nature, but ultimately, our appeals fell on deaf ears," said Heidel regretfully, conceding to the decision.
