Mainz Fire Department launches 24/7 press service for faster crisis updates
As of January 1, 2026, the Mainz Fire Department has launched a round-the-clock press service. Media representatives now have access to a dedicated contact for press-related operations, emergencies, and crisis situations at any time of day.
The press service is staffed by nine experienced and specially trained senior officers from the Mainz Professional Fire Brigade. They have voluntarily taken on this role in addition to their regular duties in operations and administrative divisions.
During the early stages of major incidents, incident commanders and situation officers are fully occupied with rescue operations, hazard mitigation, and tactical response management. In such situations, there is usually no time to handle media inquiries. The press service steps in to provide leadership support, ensuring that the media receives timely and reliable information.
The goal of the press service is to further strengthen the Mainz Fire Department's communication capabilities. The importance of rapid, professional crisis communication is growing noticeably, particularly in a media hub like Mainz. Both for operational updates and daily reporting, a central point of contact is now available.
Additionally, public warnings and information can be disseminated promptly via the Mainz Fire Department's social media channels, supplementing emergency alert apps and official crisis pages.
For media inquiries, the Mainz Fire Department can be reached via the press hotline at +49 6131 12-4650, which is managed by the on-duty press service officer.
The introduction of the press service was coordinated closely with the City of Mainz Press Office, the Lord Mayor, and the Mainz Fire Department.
