Mainz signs former Hoffenheimer Posch - Mainz 05 signs Stefan Posch on loan to reinforce struggling defense
Mainz 05 has brought in Austrian defender Stefan Posch on loan until the end of the season. The 28-year-old arrives to bolster the team's defense during its relegation battle. Financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, and the club holds no option to buy him permanently.
Posch joins from Como 1907, where he spent the 2025-26 season on loan from Bologna. His experience includes 126 competitive appearances for TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga between 2015 and 2022.
Sporting director Niko Bungert called the signing a perfect fit for the team's current needs. He described Posch as the exact type of defender required to strengthen the back line for the second half of the campaign.
The Austrian international will remain at Mainz until the season's end. His arrival aims to shore up a defense fighting to avoid the drop. Reports confirm no permanent transfer clause exists in the agreement.
