After Rosenmontag parade: Two Mainz pros ill - Mainz 05 faces Hamburger SV with four key players missing

Mainz 05 will be without four key players for their upcoming clash with Hamburger SV. Two first-team members, Nelson Weiper and Fabio Moreno Fell, have fallen ill just days after taking part in the Rose Monday parade. The team already faces absences due to injury and suspension, adding pressure ahead of the match.

The illness of Weiper and Moreno Fell follows their appearance in Mainz's Rose Monday celebrations. Head coach Urs Fischer refused to confirm whether the parade had caused their condition. Instead, he kept his focus firmly on the game.

The squad's problems extend beyond illness. Goalkeeper Robin Zentner remains out of training while recovering from injury. Defensive leader Stefan Bell is also sidelined with a medial collateral ligament strain in his right knee. Captain Silvan Widmer will miss the match through suspension.

Fischer, who turns 60 on the day of the game, has made it clear that his priority is securing a result against Hamburg. The team has already dealt with long-term injuries this season, including Benedict Hollerbach's torn Achilles tendon. Their recent signing, Sheraldo Becker from Osasuna, was brought in to strengthen the squad amid these setbacks.

Mainz 05 enter the match against Hamburger SV with a depleted side. Four players—two ill, one injured, and one suspended—will be absent. The game marks Fischer's 60th birthday, but his attention stays on overcoming the team's current challenges.
