Mainstream Player Alex Liu Regularly Obliterates Deerfoot Opponents
It's the last hurrah at the Spring Super Stack, and Deerfoot Inn & Casino played host to another phenomenal Main Event performance by Alex Liu. Apart from Liu's second local Main Event victory in the past eight months, the series ended with a bang.
The spotlight was on the Main Event on Sunday, but the final event of the series was the $280 Bounty. Kicking off at 2 PM, this side game ran concurrently with Day 2 of the Main Event. By the time entries closed at 5:30 PM, there were 73 buy-ins, totaling $13,688 in prizes, and an additional $3,650 in the bounty pool.
Devin Zalusky Takes the Bounty Crown
Devin Zalusky grabbed the winner's spot after about eight and a half hours of intense action, besting Ryan Callahan in a quick heads-up match. Callahan cashed for the second time in the series, making the final two tables in the Megastack event earlier.
Another notable cash from the list was Kyle Dery, who secured his fourth cash of the series with a fifth-place finish in the final game.
Alex Liu's Double Main Event Triumph
It's become quite a trend for Alex Liu to dominate Main Events at Deerfoot Inn & Casino. His recent string of victories dates back to August 2024, and he showcased the same aggressive, smart play during the Spring Super Stack Main Event.
Last August, when he notched his first Circuit ring in the Main Event, he held about half the chips when play was five-handed. Fast forward to April 2025, and the situation was eerily similar – Liu held around half the chips in play when the Main Event was five-handed.

Liu's road wasn't all plain sailing. He revealed after the win that his Day 1b was brutal, facing yet another series of coolers for multiple buy-ins. However, he managed to rally and bag enough chips to make it to Day 2, where he proved adept at balancing a strong grasp of the game with the right cards falling his way.
He demonstrated solid value in critical pots, such as against Roman Brar, and sent James Cruickshank packing with the nuts.
Liu's dominance isn't merely a run of good cards. He's a master of applying pressure on shorter stacks, leveraging his massive chip stack to push opponents into marginal decisions, and raking in pots. Despite keeping a low-key demeanor at the table, his dry wit is renowned when he chooses to speak up.
For Liu, the secret sauce is knowing when and how to crank up the pressure, seizing spots to extract value from opponents. Late in the game, he opted for a heads-up deal with runner-up David Swaim, but this doesn't diminish his win. Swaim was surging after eliminating Roman Brar in third place, but Liu still held a comfortable lead, and both players gained significant profit from the deal.
