The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon returns for its 42nd edition this Sunday, kicking off at 10:00 AM. Hessischer Rundfunk will broadcast the event, which sees nearly 30,000 participants across various competitions. Among them, 17,000 have signed up for the iconic 42.195-kilometer race, setting a new record for the event.
The women's elite race promises an exciting showdown. Laura Hottenrott, an Olympian from Paris 2024, has joined at the last minute, adding to the star power. Magdalyne Masai from Kenya is the favorite, having finished second in Frankfurt last year. She faces tough competition from Sharon Chelimo and Buze Diriba, both from Kenya, and six other elite women with personal bests under 2:23:00, making this the strongest elite field in Frankfurt's history.
In the men's elite race, Germany's Filimon Abraham leads the charge. He aims to secure a podium finish and break the 2:08:00 barrier for the first time, having set his personal best of 2:08:11 in Seville earlier this year. Abraham ranks as the sixth-fastest German marathoner ever.
