Ch-ch-ch-changes: Rick and Morty's Voice Actors Get a Makeover
In a surprising twist, Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden have stepped up to the mic, taking on the iconic roles of Rick and Morty! Justin Roiland, the former voice actor and co-creator of the show, was let go earlier this year following accusations of a toxic work environment and domestic abuse.
The new duo were sworn to secrecy after a grueling six-month search, as revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
With the seventh season's premiere behind us, Roilard's dismissal from the show mirrors the later dismissal of the charges against him. Yet, the damage to his reputation was irreversible. Roiland's co-creator Dan Harmon has recently opened up about the strained relationship resulting from the allegations.
The show's showrunner, Scott Mander, emphasized the importance of Cardoni and Belden sounding as similar as possible to maintain continuity for the audience. "We were writing seasons nine and beyond when Harmon and I realized that the tone of the show couldn't suddenly change," explained Mander. "We needed the voices to be the same to deliver the immersive and uninterrupted Rick and Morty experience."
Mander further clarified, "Given the uncertainty surrounding Roiland's situation, we wanted to minimize any distractions and ensure a smooth transition for those joining late. The goal was to preserve the viewing experience and deliver the same show fans have grown to love."
