Mahindra's farm equipment division records a 13% increase in sales for June 2025, shifting 51,769 tractors within the Indian market.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., a leading player in the Indian tractor industry, has reported impressive growth in its tractor sales for the month of June 2025, signalling a positive outlook for the upcoming Kharif season. The company's Farm Equipment Business reported a significant 13% year-on-year increase in domestic tractor sales, with 51,769 units sold in June 2025.
This robust growth is not limited to the domestic market alone. Mahindra's exports of tractors, including Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units, also saw a 10% increase, with 1,623 units exported in June 2025 compared to the same period last year. This growth in both domestic and export sales highlights a strong market presence for Mahindra and a positive momentum in the agriculture sector.
The total number of tractors sold by Mahindra in June 2025, including exports, was 53,392 units, a 13% increase from the same period last year. The total number of tractors sold in the domestic market was 47,319 units, a 13% increase from June 2024.
The tractor industry as a whole has also experienced growth in June 2025. This growth is primarily driven by cash flow from Rabi crop harvesting and the widespread onset of monsoon across most regions. With favorable monsoon conditions, robust crop output, and supportive government policies, the outlook for the tractor industry remains optimistic in the upcoming Kharif season.
The YTD (Year-to-Date) sales for Mahindra's Farm Equipment Business as of June 2025 were 1,34,089 units, a 10% increase from the same period last year. The YTD sales for the company stood at 1,29,199 units as of June 2025, a 13% increase from the same period last year.
Key factors supporting this demand include above-normal monsoon rainfall, increased Kharif crop output, and pre-buying ahead of new emission norms. The India Meteorological Department forecasts precipitation at approximately 105% of the long period average, enhancing crop production prospects for Kharif crops. The third advance estimates indicate a 7.9% year-on-year increase in Kharif crop output, further boosting demand for tractors to prepare and cultivate the expanded crop area.
Pre-buying ahead of new emission norms (TREM V) effective April 2026 may also spur further volumes. Increased rural income and farm confidence due to favorable monsoon conditions stimulate mechanization needs, especially tractors, for faster and cost-effective land preparation during the sowing season.
In summary, the tractor industry, led by players like Mahindra with robust sales growth, is poised for a positive Kharif season with tractor demand projected to grow moderately by 4-7% in FY26, sustained by excellent monsoon prospects and rising agricultural output.
Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.'s Farm Equipment Business, commented on the performance, stating that the company sold 51,769 tractors in the domestic market in June 2025. Record production of foodgrains, especially rice, wheat, and pulses, is expected to support strong tractor demand in the coming months. With favorable long-term rainfall trends, land preparation activities are well underway for the upcoming Kharif season.
